Why I left automotive engineering to build scopri.ai
My first project as an engineer meant analysing 386 patents in electric drive technology. It took two months. That problem never left me - so I left a career I loved to fix it.
From the drivetrain to discovery
My first engineering task was a two-month manual patent analysis - and it exposed a problem hiding in plain sight.
The reading was slow, repetitive, and easy to get wrong, yet the decisions on top of it were critical.
scopri.ai is the tool I wished I had back then - built to give engineers their time, and their judgment, back.
My career started in automotive engineering, working on electric drive technology. I loved the work. The problem I am now building a company to solve found me on my very first project.
The task sounded simple: understand the patent landscape around a specific drivetrain technology. In practice it meant reading 386 patents by hand - and it took two months.
Two months of an engineer’s time went into reading, sorting, and summarising documents. Most of them turned out to be irrelevant. The handful that mattered were buried in the pile, and the only way to find them was to read everything.
It was the kind of work that quietly drains a team:
because relevance can only be judged by reading the full document.
because the same scanning happens on every new project.
because a missed patent can derail a development decision later.
The problem that stayed with me
I moved on to other projects, but the experience did not let go. Every engineer I spoke to had their own version of the same story - weeks lost to patent reading that a machine should have been able to help with. The technology to do it well simply did not exist yet.
I kept thinking: this is exactly the kind of work software should take off an engineer’s plate.
Deciding to leave was not easy, but the path was clear. I wanted to build the tool I had needed on day one:
Start from the idea
Describe the technology in plain language - the way an engineer actually thinks about it.
Let a model do the reading
An individual AI model trained on the topic reads what would have taken a person weeks.
Get to the relevant few
A ranked landscape surfaces the patents that matter, so judgment can start immediately.
That is the loop I never had as a young engineer - and the reason scopri.ai exists.
I did not want to replace engineers. The judgment in that first project - deciding what was novel, what was a risk, what was an opportunity - was the valuable part. The two months of reading was not.
So scopri.ai is built to remove the reading and protect the judgment: give technical people a ranked, trustworthy starting point, and let them spend their expertise where it counts.
Every week, engineers somewhere are repeating my first project - burning weeks on manual patent analysis. The technology to change that finally exists. Building it is the most useful thing I can do with what I learned in the drivetrain.
Do you still work as an engineer?
My focus now is building scopri.ai, but the engineering experience shapes everything - the product is designed around how technical teams actually work.
Why electric drive technology?
It was my first project and the source of the 386-patent analysis. It is also a fast-moving field where staying on top of prior art is genuinely hard.
Is scopri.ai only for automotive?
No. The problem is universal across deep-tech and engineering fields. scopri.ai works across technology areas, not just the one that inspired it.
Would scopri.ai have solved that first project?
Most of it. The two months of reading would have collapsed into a ranked landscape in well under an hour, leaving time for the judgment that actually mattered.

weil dasselbe Sichten in jedem neuen Projekt erneut passiert.
